Gorgeous book Beautiful Book and can’t wait to incorporate into our meals. HORRIBLE PACKAGING!! this book is absolutely lovely and I couldn’t wait to get a copy so I pre ordered. Unfortunately Amazon shipping standards are completely messed up. Sent my new hard cover book in a paper envelope. The book is gorgeous but sadly the binding is already broken. Really sad and this is not the first time. Still can’t wait to try all the recipes.Gorgeous, fun, and EASY recipes! I pre-ordered and was so excited at its arrival that I stayed up way later than i should have to pour through the pictures, recipes and paintings. This book is magical! Almost any gathering we host, or when we attend pot lucks, I almost always use at least one of Erin’s recipes. I hardly know which recipes to start with, given the depth of the options with this stunning new book. The recipes are simple, but I would never come up with them myself. Erin makes it easy to cook healthily and present dishes beautifully. It is going to double as a coffee table book, because my friends usually live flipping through Erin’s books as much as I do.Easy, fresh, mouth-watering produce! This is an amazing book of mouth-watering produce. This is my second Erin Gleeson book. My favorite thing about her is that she’s summertime easy breezy freshness on the table. If this is your first book of hers, it’s a little different than the average cookbook. She has large photos and drawings, and puts the ingredients and steps right over them.My thoughts and pics of the dishes we tried:1) Spicy Melon Salad – p 100. This combination of melons with tomatoes and a little zing from pepper and arugula is wonderfully refreshing and earthy with sweet and spicy notes.2) Fig Cake with Dried Cherries – p 136. We all adored this! It’s like a giant energy ball, served with thinly shaven Manchego. It’s really the perfect centerpiece for a platter.3) Seared Fennel & Clementine Salad – p 72. Great combination of flavors.4) Stuffed Cherry Peppers – p 36. Tangy and creamy cheese filled pickled peppers with citrus zest, chives, and fresh cracked pepper. So yummy and quick. Hers stood up individually in the pics. Mine were a little lazier and leaned on each other for support.5) Summer Corn and Peach Salad – p 104. Delicious and interesting combination of fruits and veggies. We loved it and took 10 minutes to pull together without heating up the house at all.6-7) Tortilla Espanola with Rainbow Chard – p 156. Loved this. I’ve never made tortilla Espanola with greens in it before, and everyone really enjoyed it. She doesn’t mention sauce with it. An herby garlic aioli is absolutely perfect for it.8) Pomegranate Stuffed Avocados – p 96. These were really interesting and a quick, yummy, pretty lunch.9) Roasted Cauliflower Salad – p 102. Lovely fall flavors brightened with fresh lemon and tangy yogurt.10) Golden Beet & Orange Salad – p 70. Really nice earthy salad. The citrus really livens up the beets.11) Herbes de Provence Winter Vegetables – p 202. Lovely roasted winter vegetable dish. I made it a second time and added dried cherries, candied pecans, and feta to make it a stand-alone dish. Some others I have flagged to try: Stuffed Dried Figs – p 42 * Grapefruit & Thyme Aperol Spritz – p 50 * Winter Caprese – p 84 * Shaved Snap Pea Salad – p 88 * Algarve Salad – p 92 * Patatas Bravas – p 116 * Baked Provolone – p 126 * Burrata & Olive Antipasto – p 130 * Baked Zucchini Strips – p 196 * Cacio e Pepe Spaghetti Squash – p 206 * Spicy Broccolini & Leeks – p 208 * Honey-Balsamic Green Beans – p 212 * Baked Sweet Potatoes with Hazelnuts – p 215 * Avocado Chocolate Mousse – p 222*I received a copy to explore and share my thoughts.

Secondhand Pdf

ISBN: B07QPPRR6N
Title: Secondhand Pdf Travels in the New Global Garage Sale
From the author of Junkyard Planet, a journey into the surprising afterlives of our former possessions.

Downsizing. Decluttering. A parent's death. Sooner or later, all of us are faced with things we no longer need or want. But when we drop our old clothes and other items off at a local donation center, where do they go? Sometimes across the country-or even halfway across the world-to people and places who find value in what we leave behind.

In Secondhand, journalist Adam Minter takes us on an unexpected adventure into the often-hidden, multibillion-dollar industry of reuse: thrift stores in the American Southwest to vintage shops in Tokyo, flea markets in Southeast Asia to used-goods enterprises in Ghana, and more. Along the way, Minter meets the fascinating people who handle-and profit from-our rising tide of discarded stuff, and asks a pressing question: In a world that craves shiny and new, is there room for it all?

Secondhand offers hopeful answers and hard truths. A history of the stuff we've used and a contemplation of why we keep buying more, it also reveals the marketing practices, design failures, and racial prejudices that push used items into landfills instead of new homes. Secondhand shows us that it doesn't have to be this way, and what really needs to change to build a sustainable future free of excess stuff.

Great book! Very eye opening to our modern world

Population and Community Health Nursing (6th Edition) Download

ISBN: 0133859592
Title: Population and Community Health Nursing (6th Edition) Pdf
Author: Mary Jo Clark
Published Date: 2014-10-09
Page: 992
The community/population health/public health nurse is charged with promoting the health of populations, not only the individuals within populations. This requires advocacy on the part of the nurse, for entire communities as well as for the individuals within. The long-awaited sixth edition of Population-based & Community Health Nursing by respected leader and educator Mary Jo Clark has been thoroughly updated with an even stronger population-based nursing approach. Population-based & Community Health Nursing, 6e continues to approach population-based/community health nursing from an aggregate perspective, clearly showing how nurses can serve to improve the health of populations within a community by functioning as advocates on many levels. To illustrate how that can be manifested, real-life vignettes begin every chapter, showing students what advocacy looks like in the public health context.  In each chapter, clinical reasoning exercises are woven throughout in boxed features.

Population Health When advancing your degree or working within the health department of community this book helps you to understand the population that is in your community and how you can best serve it to improve health outcomes.Expensive Bought new, haven't used yet, but is required for my classes. A bit expensive, but college books usually are. But this one I will keep for many years.eBook I bought this eBook for my Community Health Nursing Assessment class online and totally recommended. First, I saved some money since this is cheaper than the hardcover book. Second, I can read anytime using my iPad. Third, no need to carry books which I didn't like cos I don't like to carry heavy stuff in my backpack.

The Gene Download

ISBN: B01D3BXLP8
Title: The Gene Pdf An Intimate History

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning, best-selling author of The Emperor of All Maladies, a magnificent history of the gene and a response to the defining question of the future: What becomes of being human when we learn to "read" and "write" our own genetic information?

2017 Audie Award Finalist for Non-Fiction

The extraordinary Siddhartha Mukherjee has written a biography of the gene as deft, brilliant, and illuminating as his extraordinarily successful biography of cancer. Weaving science, social history, and personal narrative to tell us the story of one of the most important conceptual breakthroughs of modern times, Mukherjee animates the quest to understand human heredity and its surprising influence on our lives, personalities, identities, fates, and choices.

Throughout the narrative, the story of Mukherjee's own family - with its tragic and bewildering history of mental illness - cuts like a bright red line, reminding us of the many questions that hang over our ability to translate the science of genetics from the laboratory to the real world. In superb prose and with an instinct for the dramatic scene, he describes the centuries of research and experimentation - from Aristotle and Pythagoras to Mendel and Darwin, from Boveri and Thomas Morgan to Crick, Watson, and Rosa Franklin, all the way through the revolutionary 21st-century innovators who mapped the human genome.

As The New Yorker said of The Emperor of All Maladies, "It's hard to think of many books for a general audience that have rendered any area of modern science and technology with such intelligence, accessibility, and compassion.... An extraordinary achievement."

A riveting, revelatory, and magisterial history of a scientific idea coming to life and an essential preparation for the moral complexity introduced by our ability to create or "write" the human genome, The Gene is a must-listen for everyone concerned about the definition and future of humanity. This is the most crucial science of our time, intimately explained by a master.

A great history with a flaws If you are thinking of buying this book, please note the word "History" in the title. If you are looking for a history book on genetics, heritability and the human understanding of these things, this is a great book. If you are interested in deep technical descriptions or in understanding the latest in gene editing technology, this is not the right book. The great aspect of the book is that it weaves together and conceptualizes all the bits of genetics we remember from high school biology and various articles and books we have read over the decades. The author is very good at this. The book can give you an excellent basic understanding of the topic. The downsides: 1. The author attempts to weave personal family stories into the book and relate them to genetics. The stories are not interesting and are not tied into the narrative well. Fortunately, it is very easy to skip these sections. You lose nothing in your understanding if you just skip them. 2. Every time a sensitive topic comes up like eugenics, the author puts in a great deal of effort in virtue signaling about being on the right side of the topic. The endless condemning of Nazis is not really necessary. We kind of assume the author is not an admirer of Nazis. The author goes into a long straw man argument attempting to debunk "The Bell Curve" and then restates the primary thesis of the book as established fact. It looked like he had never read the book, but needed to condemn it so he could stay in academic good graces. 3. The later parts of the book fall short as the author gets into very recent technology. The early historical narratives are excellent. The later chapters lack quality and clarity. All in all, a very worthwhile book and I have not seen anything that would provide a better history. Read the book, just be aware that there are flaws.

It also raises sometimes uncomfortable questions with no clear-cut answers about whether people should be remunerated for their physical, genetic contributions to research and about the role of profit in science.” —National Public Radio “An indelible, marvelous story as powerful as those cells.” —Philadelphia Inquirer “As much an act of justice as one of journalism.” —Seattle Times “A stunning book . . . surely the definitive work on the subject.” —The Independent(U.K.) “Graceful . . . I can’t think of a better way to capture the corrosive effects of ethical transgressions in medical research. It’s a heartbreaking story, beautifully rendered.” —The Lancet “Read this . . . By letting the Lackses be people, and by putting them in the center of the history, Skloot turns just another tale about the march of progress into a complicated portrait of the interaction between science and human lives. —BOINGBOING.NET “[A] remarkable and moving book . . . a vivid portrait of Lacks that should be as abiding as her cells.” —The Times (U.K.) “I can’t imagine a better tale. I highly recommend this book.” —Jad Abumrad, Radiolab “Skloot is a terrific popularizer of medical science, guiding readers through this dense material with a light and entertaining touch.” —The Globe and Mail (Canada) “A rare and powerful combination of race, class, gender, medicine, bioethics, and intellectual property; far more rare is the writer that can so clearly fuse those disparate threads into a personal story so rich and compelling.” —Seed “Powerful story . . . I feel moved even to say on behalf of the thousands of anonymous black men and women who’ve been experimented on for medical purposes, thank you. Thank you for writing this important book.” —Kali-AhsetAmen, Radio Diaspora “Skloot has written an important work of immersive nonfiction that brings not only the stories of Henrietta Lacks and HeLa once more into line, but also catharsis to a family in sore need of it.” —The Times Literary Supplement “A masterful work of nonfiction . . . a real page turner.” —Hanna Rosin, Slate “Skloot explores human consequences of the intersection of science and business, rescuing one of modern medicine’s inadvertent pioneers from an unmarked grave.” —US News & World Report “Remarkably balanced and nonjudgmental . . . The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks will leave readers reeling, plain and simple. It has a power and resonance rarely found in any genre, and is a subject that touches each of us, whether or not we are aware of our connection to Henrietta’s gift.” —The Oregonian “This is the perfect book. It reads like a novel but has the intellectual substance of a science textbook or a historical biography.” —The Daily Nebraskan “Illuminates what happens when medical research is conducted within an unequal health-care system and delivers an American narrative fraught with intrigue, tragedy, triumph, pathos, and redemption.” —MS.“A tremendous accomplishment —a tale of important science history that reads like a terrific novel.” —Kansas City Star “Good science writing isn’t easy, but Skloot makes it appear so.” —The Wichita Eagle “Encompasses nearly every hot-button issue currently surrounding the practice of medicine.” —Madison Capital Times “Defies easy categorization . . . as unpredictable as any pulp mystery and as strange as any science fiction.” —Willamette Week “An achievement . . . navigates both the technical and deeply personal sides of the HeLa story with clarity and care.” —The Portland Mercury “[A] remarkable book.” —London Review of Books  “An essential reminder that all human cells grown in labs across the world, HeLa or otherwise, came from individuals with fears, desires, and stories to tell.” —Chemical & Engineering News  “Blows away the notion that science writing must be the literary equivalent to Ambien.” —Chicago Tribune “Seldom do you read a book that is science, social history, and a page turner.” —British Medical Journal “Thrilling and original nonfiction that refuses to be shoehorned into anything as trivial as a genre. It is equal parts popular science, historical biography, and detective novel.” —Ed Yong, DISCOVER.COM “Best book I’ve read in years.” —Brian Sullivan, Fox Business Network “Thanks to Rebecca Skloot, we may now remember Henrietta—who she was, how she lived, how she died.” —The New Republic “We need more writers like Rebecca Skloot.” —E.O.WilsonREBECCA SKLOOT is an award-winning science writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine; O, The Oprah Magazine; Discover; and many others. #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells—taken without her knowledge in 1951—became one of the most important tools in medicine, vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, and more. Henrietta's cells have been bought and sold by the billions, yet she remains virtually unknown, and her family can't afford health insurance. This phenomenal New York Times bestseller tells a riveting story of the collision between ethics, race, and medicine; of scientific discovery and faith healing; and of a daughter consumed with questions about the mother she never knew.

A must read What a great book. My previous boss gave me a copy to read and I then bought a copy off of Amazon. I'm sending it to my cousin. Its a must read for anyone, regardless of race or ethnicity.Educational, entertaining, and an overall great read I ordered this book to read for one of my Ethics classes. I was worried about so much assigned reading to complete in one week, but it turned out to be a book that you just can't put down.It still amazes me that this is a woman's real life story, the story of her family, and how they have impacted science and anyone who works or benefits from the use of cellular research. That means just about every single person is connected to Henrietta in one way or another. This was a great book that I'm so glad I read. I learned a lot and it kept me entertained and fascinated for days. It will really change your perspective and make you appreciate this woman's contribution to our scientific and health fields.
