For this reason, I really appreciate the author’s optimism and also have hope that we can collectively make a difference.Great science plus practical advice This book is amazing. It is great overview of the science of endocrine-disrupting chemicals and the ways in which they are affecting our health for the worse plus practical advice for how to reduce exposure to them to protect yourself and your family. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in how environmental exposures are affecting our health and how to make changes in your life that will help prevent diseases ranging from ADHD to diabetes to cancer. We just listened to the audio book and already we are making changes to how we handle things in our home, like food storage. Highly recommended.

While informative about how the West Wing works under Trump, I'd still like my money back.The book would resonate best with MAGA devotees and Trumpist conservatives. If that's who you are, you will like the book.The author attempts to justify things like the egregious firing of James Comey, and expresses doubt that the Russia interfered with US elections.Caveat emptor.Will it be a Trump Devotee who Brings Trump’s Administration to its KNEES? Page 59. Yes, page 59 is, to my mind, a key to proving just how ludicrous is the current President’s Administration.On page 59, Sims explains the full story regarding the crowd size for Trump’s inaugural. We all knew it was a lie, but Sean Spicer and company swore to us what they knew was a falsehood.Sims has provided a wealth of gossipy information that is likely to weaken the Trump Administration more than that done by Bob Woodward, Michael Wolff, or Michael Lewis. Why? Because Trump’s followers know that Sims is one of them. He has nothing but admiration and adoration for Donald Trump.BOTTOM LINEIf you’re looking for scandal against Pres. I bought and read the Kindle edition of the book. It should be noted as a "Verified Purchase"Cliff Sims is a 20-something wonderkind from Alabama, where he was the CEO of a media company. In 2016, he had broken the story - complete with audio tapes - of the affair the state's governor, Robert Bentley had been having with his (much younger) assistant, Rebekah Mason. Bentley ultimately resigned/was pushed out of office. About the same time, Sims had had a radio interview with then-candidate Donald Trump that had gone well. A little later, he evinced interest in working for the Trump-for-President campaign, and an old friend, Senator Jeff Sessions, got him a job in the Trump campaign communications department. Sims moved to New York, where he worked for the campaign and then with the White House. This book, "Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House", is a story of his work with both the campaign and his time at the White House.I haven't read many of the books which have come out since Donald Trump was inaugurated. I did buy the Woodward book last fall, but have not been interested enough - after all, we are living it - to buy anything more, til I saw this book. It's the story about Cliff Sims, the son and grandson of Alabama preachers, who build up a quasi-media empire in Alabama and ran with the big dogs of state politics. A conservative, who believed in the Republican mantras, Sims is a sophisticated young man who seemed to fit in to the Trump campaign mojo and moved to the White House, looking for more. He worked closely with the White House Communications department and left after about 18 months of service. How he was able to rationalise the work he was doing for the man who he was doing it for, while maintaining his basic morality, is the subtext to his book. The main text was, of course, the weirdness and bizarre actions of the Trump White House.Cliff Sims is a good writer. He knows how to tell his story as he lived it, in plain terms. Sims doesn't stint on the details about the president and his staff, yet I was left with the feeling that Sims actually liked Donald Trump. And maybe even understood him a little. This is a good book.

because I sucked the first time with a 142 Worth it. Do the online courses which really dive down into the specifics of how to train your mind to take the GRE. It bumped my scores up about 4 points after a scan of the verbal section of the book to get an idea on how to approach the verbal section, because I sucked the first time with a 142. I retook a practice test and scored a 146 after a hard core weekend session I had with myself and this book. The online deal digs deeper into how to approach the GRE, which is a more simplified structured version of the book a well. I'm going to re-take my third and fourth practice test soon to see if I am consistently decent with a 150 or better soon. Again, worth it if you want to take the GRE seriously and pursue a higher degree.ehh.. maybe not this one. I don't know if I can really recommend this book.The basic material is quite good, it gives a very good overview of basic math, and verbal test taking skills. The vocabulary lists are extensive and pretty well organized too. So in terms of raw study material, this book is fine.However, when it comes to actual GRE preparation, this book is totally inadequate. After taking the actual GRE, I realized two things.First: the verbal practice material was massively harder than the actual GRE. The basic question format was similar, but the GRE was more balanced in terms of vocabulary use, and the reading passages were more clear. The Kaplan questions were written as though they were being paid per thesaurus word, and were almost comical in their overuse of fancy vocabulary words. The end result was that I was very worried about how I'd do on the GRE verbal section, when in fact I basically aced it.Second, the quantitative practice material was incredibly easy in comparison to the GRE. I basically nailed all the practice question sets, and going into the test, I felt very confident that I was going to recognize tricks and be able to analyze the questions well. What actually happened was that I was absolutely blindsided by the difficulty of the questions. My score was adequate but not great. I ran out of time on every math section, and by the end I was actually laughing at the screen because of how woefully unprepared I was for the types of questions I was being asked. The Kaplan material gave me absolutely zero awareness of what I was walking into. I was truly shocked.On the plus side, for $20-ish, you get a pretty good set of basic study material. If your math skills have been underutilized for years, and you don't read enough for fun, this book will help you at least get up to a functional level, so in that respect I don't feel ripped off.However, as an actual preparation guide for the GRE? Absolutely not. Indeed, the "test day" section itself is actually incorrect, because among other thing it tells you to bring a watch and snacks/drinks, whereas watches are expressly banned by ETS, and the testing center didn't allow any kind of food or drink at all.Can't Argue with Results I needed a book to prepare me for the GRE, and this did it. This book got me from knowing NOTHING about the GRE to achieving the scores I need to get into Clemson's highly advanced Genetics AND Biochemistry and Molecular Biology PhD programs. I studied using this book and the online tests/practice problems for about 4 months before taking the test. I actively read through each section, did the practice problems, and went back and did the problems over and over again until I understood how to do them and get them right every time. I used the practice tests online, and having taken them, I felt much more comfortable going into the actual test! It was way less foreign, and a lot of the problems on the test were just like what Kaplan gave me. The price is GREAT, much less than what my friends were paying for just online materials.The book comes with itself, and A LOT of online materials. Two practice tests, hours of videos from instructors, (which I didn't find until too late to use), and practice problems with full explanations. The sky's the limit with you options studying with Kaplan! (Or so I think... After it worked so well for me, I recommended it to my students, and bought the ACT version for my sister. They all loved it too!)

Thrills but ... ... this is a hunter with no moral compass that I could find.Robert C. RossDecember 2018Great Potential, BUT... There were more enticing choices this month on Amazon First Reads than usual, so I took my time to select the most provocative suspense. I especially appreciated the bio of the author of “Hunt Them Down.”The opening displayed great potential, for enjoyment and for disappointment. By Chapter 4, I was, alas, leaning towards disappointment. Why?1 - The author gives us an info dump about Chicago and the street value of a kilo of heroin and how some $15 Mn is peanuts to a drug cartel. Granted, if done correctly, this sort of information CAN lend credibility, so at this point I’m not too concerned, but...2 - The writer decides he wants the embedded tv journalist (equipped with his own camera, I think, to be a hater of police “bullies” (author’s words, not mine). The reporter is a ‘prima donna’ who live tweets a raid, thus enabling an escape/defense by cartel members, who kill a member of the team. Mind you, all of this happens in the first three or four chapters, so I don’t consider these revelations to be spoilers. When you come across a reporter who dares to even think of his greatness stemming from tragedy, well, part of me wanted to toss my Kindle-app equipped iPad across the room. But, then, as a former journalist, I don’t view the media as an enemy of the people.But, I abhor reviews that reveal too much of a book’s plot, so will stop here.BLUSH FACTOR: One might expect an Action-Adventure to feature hard-edged characters evoking profanities. In that sense, there are no surprises here. Some will be disappointed in the number of eff-words, but, as for me, the language spoken felt real, even if the number exceeded the artistic needs. Put simply, don’t plan on reading to children or to your prayer group.CHARACTER: Early on, it felt as though the writer might be developing cartoon characters, but I also surmised he might be setting me up for turning the jerk reporter into a buddy to the agent later in the story, so I read on. Certainly, the agent (Hunt) felt like he was drawn on the author’s alter-ego.EXCERPT‘...Moore couldn’t believe his luck. He checked his live viewers. Ten thousand and climbing. Amazing. The likes were coming in faster than ever before. And so were the comments.He had filmed everything, including when the lead special agent—what was his name again? Oh yeah, Hunt—had shot the man who had just surrendered. Moore’s whole body was shaking—not from fear but from excitement. He quietly climbed out of the Durango and continued to film. The scene was surreal. The panel van had so many bullet holes that it looked like an infantry platoon had used it for target practice. Part of him wished innocent people had been inside the van when the DEA agents fired at it. That would’ve been the biggest law enforcement blunder in the history of Chicago. Worth a Pulitzer, maybe?Moore aimed his phone at the lead agent, who was kneeling next to what appeared to be a dead DEA agent. Oh my God. I can’t believe this. The viewers will go crazy. This will be international news within the hour.He jogged toward them. “What’s the name of the dead agent?” he asked.Hunt turned his head and saw that [expletive deleted] reporter aiming his phone at his fallen comrade. Then, I recalled how I despised Navy Seals (the action-packed movie of 1990 with Charlie Sheen).
